It is that time of the year when we are finally hit by the fact that we are at the end of yet another year and go, ‘Omg! Just one more week of 2017! Can you believe it? The year went by so fast!’ And we slowly, look back at the year that went by with either happiness, sadness, satisfaction, gratitude, relief or a mix of everything. And we look forward to another new year with either hope, determination, fear, courage or a little bit of everything.

The thing about New Year is that no matter how old you are, there is always a sense of excitement that comes with it. Atleast to me, it has always been like that. No matter how bad my previous year has been, on New Year’s day, I am strangely filled with a feeling of hope that things would be better the next year. That’s the thing about New Year that I love the most. After years of making New Year resolutions and not keeping them, I had resigned to the fact that the time to think about resolutions is in reality, just a waste of time for me, until 2017.

My resolution for 2017 was simply to cherish. To cherish each and every moment of my life. To not take anything for granted, ever again. To see the beauty in everything around me. Though it saddens me that it took a great personal loss for me to realise that I have been taking my life for granted, I can only console myself that it is not too late. It is never too late to start cherishing the life you have, the beauty of nature around you, the simple joys of life. I am by nature, a pessimist and for me to keep up a resolution like that would have been close to impossible. I must admit that it was difficult for me, but I tried. I can confidently say that I made progress on that, no matter how little.

For 2018, I have decided to continue the same resolution – to Cherish. What is your resolution?
